Sendai (仙台市) is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tōhoku Region. The city has a population of over 1.2 million.

On 11 March 2011, coastal areas of the city suffered catastrophic damage from a magnitude 9.0 offshore earthquake which triggered a destructive tsunami which destroyed many close coastal cities.

In 2012, we started Lifehouse Sendai with a small team from Lifehouse Tokyo and some team members from Australia. We are reaching young students and their families, many who have been devastated by the earthquake.

At only 6 months old the church is full of life and love, and we have seen many young people baptized. About 30-40ppl come to church week with new visitors getting saved almost every week.

Jeff Rodkin came to Japan 6 years ago to study at University and improve is Japanese. What he wasn’t expecting was to find a great local church in Tokyo, become a lifegroup leader, and one day planting a church in Sendai a few years later. Jeff is a great leader, who has a passion for the people of Tohoku and a vision from God for the city of Sendai.

Lifehouse Sendai is growing through outreach and relationships. Although it used to be known as the christian city of Japan, now there are almost no Christians, and most people have never heard the Gospel message. We need interns to be active in outreach, making new friends every day and inviting them to church. Also as a young church we have needs in every single area of the service!
